Help Ellen raise money

I am a breast cancer survivor. I have been on this journey for almost 4 years. I pray that soon I will be able to say I am in remission (I must wait for the 5 year mark to say that). 

My amazing, strong, and beautiful mother, Wanda, lost her battle to breast cancer two years ago this month. Cancer is cruel. Cancer is scary. 

Cancer is hard. Cancer is an emotional roller coaster. Cancer does not discriminate. 

As disability lawyers, my mom and I both focused our careers on being advocates for the disabled in our community. Although my mom is gone, I choose to continue her legacy by advocating for those who are struggling with severe illnesses.As difficult our health situations have been, my mother and I were both fortunate to have access to wonderful health insurance and the means to pay for whatever treatment we felt was medically necessary. We never had a sleepless nights trying to figure out how we would pay for our treatment or how we would get a ride to a chemotherapy appointment like so many of our disability clients. I never had to stress about paying for my $90 compression sleeve (FYI, insurance does not cover these.) to prevent lymphedema following my double mastectomy. I never had to wonder how I would pay for mastectomy supplies or breast prosthesis. These items are not cheap. I was fortunate to be able to pay for a cold-cap in order to keep the majority of my hair during and following my chemotherapy treatments. There are individuals in our community who don't even have the extra funds to pay for a ride to their appointment, much less a wig. We are so very fortunate to have an organization like the West Cancer Foundation in our city. 

Did you know that West Cancer Foundation provides assistance to patients who are uninsured or underinsured? They have wonderful resources such as free cancer screenings, Lymphedema Assistance, and Post-Mastectomy Assistance. They even a wig boutique where cancer patients can go and have a private moment to pick out a wig that makes them feel a bit more “normal” during treatments.

 To have cancer is hard enough. I cannot even fathom what it is like to be battling for your life while at the same time struggling to obtain the basic necessities to make life with cancer more manageable. The folks at The West Cancer Foundation allow cancer patients to have dignity while they are on their cancer journey.

So, I am asking for your help. Donati Law is asking for your help. We want to raise money for the West Cancer Foundation. We want to continue to advocate for individuals battling severe illness.
